From April 1, the number of urban areas was reduced in the capital, where drivers were allowed to accelerate to 80 km/h. This decision was approved by the Kyiv City State Administration after analyzing accidents and deaths on the roads.
Despite the fact that the Kyiv City Council approved a list of 17 streets, where it was planned to increase speed regime, the reality was much more stringent. After the commission, the number of such sites was first reduced to seven, and an additional analysis of the accident statistics was forced to exclude three more. These segments have only been recorded from the beginning of 2024, so the speed there has been recognized as dangerous there.
Therefore, from April 1, a speed of 80 km/h is only valid in four metropolitan areas:
-
Embankment - from Postal Square to the Dnieper highway;
-
Roman Shukhevych Avenue - from North Bridge to Onore de Balzac Street;
-
Stepan Bandera Avenue - from Jordan Street to the North Bridge;
-
Naberezhno-Rybalskaya Street-only in one direction, from electricians to the Havana Bridge.
The KSCA emphasized that the restriction was imposed solely for the sake of preserving the life and health of citizens. All changes have been agreed with the police and the transport infrastructure. Drivers are urged to be particularly careful at the wheel, not to exceed speed and strictly observe traffic rules.
