Aidos Sadikov has been living in Kyiv since 2014 and has official refugee status in Ukraine. He is known as a Kazakh oppositionist who often criticized the Kazakh authorities and supported the protests in Kazakhstan in 2022, when CSTO troops were deployed to suppress them.
In October 2023, Sadikov was declared wanted in Kazakhstan for "inciting social, national, tribal or religious enmity".
Earlier, in his native country, Sadikov served two years in prison for hooliganism. The trial in his case began on July 13, 2010, and the verdict was announced on July 16. Then the 41-year-old oppositionist was found guilty under the article "Hooliganism" and sentenced to two years in prison.
Sadikov himself called the case fabricated and related to his political activities. On his YouTube channel "Basi", which Sadikov hosted together with his wife Natalia, he regularly published videos criticizing the authorities of Kazakhstan.
The last video on his channel was released today. In the clip, President Tokayev is called a "puppet in the hands of Russian influence", and it also talks about "Kremlin agents" from the entourage of the Kazakh president.
