In Lviv, medics saved the life of a 22-year-old Lviv woman who suffered a penetrating heart wound during a rocket attack on the city on September 4. As "ZAXID.NET" reports, an ambulance took the injured woman to St. Luke's Hospital in critical condition.
The girl was in a state of shock and felt severe pain in the area of the heart. The fragment that caused the injury was discovered during a CT scan. He punctured the lung and the pericardium, the membrane surrounding the heart. A drain was urgently installed on the patient to pump blood from the pleural cavity, after which she was quickly transferred to the Heart and Vascular Center of St. Panteleimon Hospital.
The head of the Center, cardiac surgeon Roman Domashich, noted that the girl's condition was life-threatening. "She was actually born in a shirt. I wonder how it got to us, because as soon as we got the fragment out of the heart, the affected area started bleeding profusely. Another millimeter and she would have died," said the doctor.
Cardiac surgeons performed a complex operation on a working heart. A fragment measuring 1x1.5 cm was stuck in the thickness of the heart muscle, on the border of the left and right ventricles. The operation lasted about one and a half hours and was successful.
Currently, the life of the 22-year-old girl is not in danger, and she has already been discharged home. Thanks to the operative actions of the doctors and the coordinated work of the teams of Lviv doctors, it was possible to save the life of the patient, who survived an extremely difficult injury.
