In Ukraine, another large -scale corruption scheme in the field of defense purchases was exposed. According to the Security Service of Ukraine, the official of the Ministry of Defense organized falsification of documents on repair of armored vehicles, which is why the state lost at least UAH 5.4 million of budgetary funds.
According to the SBU counterintelligence, the head of the quality control group of one of the MIU military missions, which was responsible for checking the condition of armored personnel carriers after repair, came into conspiracy with the director of a private enterprise - contractor.
Under the contract, the company had to overhaul combat vehicles for further use at the front. However, in fact, the work was limited only by surface cosmetics - without eliminating technical malfunctions.
The military representative, knowing the shortcomings, deliberately "closed his eyes" to imitate repair. He signed the act of receiving the work performed, which allowed the firm to transfer the full amount of money - as if for a quality overhaul.
The engineering and technical examination confirmed that armored personnel carriers remained unusable for combat. In fact, no real work was carried out.
The scheme was exposed by the SBU operatives together with the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense. The Ministry of Defense official has already reported suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (negligent attitude towards military service in the conditions of martial law). He faces up to 8 years in prison.
All other members of the equipment will also be responsible - they will be charged with the appropriation of property and abuse of office (Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
