In Mykolaiv, the SBU counterintelligence detained an agent of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), who passed on information about the security of the positions of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. The agent turned out to be a 35-year-old man with a criminal record, recruited while in a penal colony in Russia. On the instructions of the FSB, he came to Mykolaiv and began to actively collect information about the location of Ukrainian military and equipment, transmitting this data via mobile phone.
How the agent got to Mykolaiv
Before the start of the full-scale war, the defendant already had problems with the law. After the Russian occupiers captured Kherson, he was transported to one of the colonies in Russia, where he was recruited by the Russian special services. Carrying out the tasks of the FSB, he came to Mykolaiv, began to collect information about the positions of the Ukrainian military. To do this, he photographed objects and talked to locals, trying to get your data. He transmitted all the collected information via mobile phone to his curator.
Detention and seizure of evidence
SBU officers detained the agent during a search of his residence, where a mobile phone was seized as evidence of contacts with the Russian handler. Thanks to the operational measures of the SBU officers, it was possible to temporarily stop the spy's activities and prevent the possibility of losses among the Ukrainian military.
Legal qualifications and prospects
SBU investigators informed the perpetrator of his conviction under Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - unauthorized dissemination of information about the deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine under martial law. For this, he faces up to 12 years in prison. The issue of additional qualification of his actions as high treason is also being resolved.
This special operation is another step in the fight against Russian espionage, which continues to threaten Ukraine's national security.
