In the Netherlands, an investigation into a loud knife attack, which occurred on March 27, 2025, is underway near the Lady Square in the center of Amsterdam. The suspect was a 30-year-old citizen of Ukraine Roman D., a former serviceman who left service without permission. Five passers -by as a result of the injury incident.
This was reported by the Dutch broadcaster NOS with reference to sources in law enforcement. According to the previous version of the investigation, the Ukrainian deliberately committed an attack to get into a European prison.
According to the former brothers, Roman repeatedly spoke about his desire to be imprisoned in Europe, studied the legislation of different countries and even stated that he "plans to kill someone in Norway." His comrades believe that even before escape abroad, he showed signs of psychological instability.
Roman D. is originally from the village of Sartan Donetsk region. He has served in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 2019, in particular in the 503rd battalion, which participated in the battles for coal and Kherson. In 2023, the novel suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of an explosion of a grenade, after which he was transferred to an administrative position in the 15th separate regiment of the 38th Brigade. According to colleagues, after the injury, he became closed, conflict and was even more isolated.
In recent months, Roman D. has declared his intention to visit his mother in the Czech Republic. However, as it turned out later, he did not reach the Czech Republic. His mother claims that she did not communicate with her son from the beginning of a full -scale invasion. The Netherlands police said the man had entered the country directly from Ukraine.
After the arrest, the attacker found fake documents on the names of five other Ukrainian servicemen. The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine has already contacted them to clarify the circumstances.
Although the origin of the Roman from the occupied settlement has suggested that Russian intervention is possible, his former commanders are inclined to believe that the actions of a man were a personal initiative, not part of a special operation. However, the Prosecutor's Office of the Netherlands does not exclude any version.
The investigation was suspected of attempted murder or unintentional murder with a terrorist motive. The lawsuit over the Ukrainian should begin in early July.
