The German budget for 2025, approved by the Government, provides for the support of Ukraine 8.3 billion euros. This is almost a billion euros less than the Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has publicly promised this year, according to the German edition of Bild.
On June 24, the Government officially approved the budget project in which 8.3 billion euros are envisaged to assist the “states that have suffered armed aggression” (mainly Ukraine). At the same time, the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense stressed that the government supports Ukraine for the promised about 9 billion euros in 2025, and the fact of a lesser amount in the budget bill does not change anything.
However, the Ministry of Defense said that EUR 1.9 billion has already been included in the total amount of € 8.3 billion. This caused differences with previous statements of the department, which indicated that additional funds should be added, not taken into account in the total amount.
Such a step raised the question of transparency of financing and real support of Ukraine by Germany. The amount of assistance that has been "lost" or previously taken into account remains the subject of discussions among experts and in the media.
