In Germany, a political debate on Ukrainian recruitment men in the country and receive state aid is unfolding. Representatives of the Christian Social Union (CSS) call on the government to cancel payments for this category of persons, arguing it with a necessity either in Ukraine or work in Germany.
In particular, Foreign Policy CSU expert Stefan Mayer said that the situation with more than 150,000 Ukrainian men aged 18 to 63, who receive an average of 882 euros from the state on average, is "abnormal" on average.
“If nearly 151,000 conscript Ukrainians receive support, then something is wrong here. This group of persons is not entitled to social payments and has either to work in Germany or to serve in the Ukrainian army, ”the Bild policy quotes.
In general, according to German sources, more than 304 thousand Ukrainian men of conscript has arrived in Germany since the beginning of the Full -Swarming War. About half of them officially receive social assistance, which is embraced by Germany of approximately 1.3 billion euros annually.
Against the backdrop of criticism, the Ukrainian Embassy in Germany calls not to make generalizations. In a commentary for the media, diplomats emphasize that most Ukrainian men have legitimate reasons for staying in the country, as well as undergo military registration or perform other forms of responsibilities.
“The stay of Ukrainian men abroad is not forbidden. Much of them are registered in the military accounting system and has legal documents, ”the embassy said.
Discussion in Germany arises against the backdrop of broader European debates to support Ukrainian refugees, the balance between humanitarian assistance and the obligations to the fighting country.
