For the first time during the war in Ukraine, the majority of Poles spoke in favor of ending the conflict, even if it involves territorial concessions on the part of Ukraine. Such data was published by Polish Radio, referring to the results of a survey conducted by the Polish Center for the Study of Public Opinion (CBOS).
In particular, the survey showed that 55% of respondents supported the opinion that Ukraine should sacrifice territory to end the war. In September 2024, it was supported by only 39% of respondents, and in April only 26%.
In turn, CBOS emphasized that this change shows growing weariness from the long-term war, because previously Polish citizens supported Ukraine to continue its struggle.
The survey also showed that young people in Poland, namely people aged 18 to 24, residents of smaller cities, people with a lower level of education and Poles with more conservative views mostly support peace through negotiations.
At the same time, Ukrainians think differently. A poll by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) showed that almost two-thirds of Ukrainians are ready to endure the war "as long as it takes." This figure decreased slightly from 73% at the end of 2023 to 63% in October 2024, but the majority still strongly rejects territorial concessions.
The possibility of negotiations with the Russian Federation - the latest news
Earlier, the adviser to the head of the President's Office, Mykhailo Podolyak, said that negotiations between Ukraine and Russia are currently impossible. According to him, the Russian Federation can sit down at the negotiating table only through coercive tools.
Also, the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, emphasized that peace negotiations will begin only when the Russian Federation does not have the resources to wage war. He noted that because of this, "there is an incredibly large amount of work ahead."
