The Verkhovna Rada is preparing to register a draft law that could fundamentally change the system of salaries of officials during martial law. The authors of the initiative, in particular people's deputies from the "European Solidarity" faction, propose to limit the incomes of officials to the amount received by military personnel on the front line - 100,000 hryvnias per month.
As deputy Nina Yuzhanina reported, salary restrictions should apply to people's deputies, ministers, judges, employees of the National Bank, the President's Office, the Accounting Chamber, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB) and other structures.
"During the period of martial law, the salary of these persons should not exceed the payments to military personnel who take direct part in hostilities," Yuzhanina emphasized.
Who will not be affected?
Restrictions will not apply to:
- military;
- employees of the State Emergency Service (ESES).
Thus, the draft law is aimed at supporting the principle of social justice in the conditions of war.
If the bill is passed, it will signal the solidarity of government officials with the military and citizens experiencing economic hardship due to the war. At the same time, the question arises as to how this will affect the efficiency of the state apparatus, because high salaries are often a way to reduce corruption risks.
