In the case of the Ukrainian model Maria Kovalchuk opened criminal proceedings on human trafficking

Ukrainian law enforcement officers are investigating the high-profile business of the 20-year-old model of Maria Kovalchuk, which with heavy injuries found on the roadside road in Dubai. In the framework of the investigation in Ukraine, criminal proceedings under the article "Trafficking in human beings" were opened. The crime is guilty of up to eight years in prison.

According to OBOZ.UA, the proceedings were opened under part 1 of Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. It refers to the recruitment, movement, hiding, transfer or receipt of a person for the purpose of operation, using deception, coercion or dependence. Such actions are punishable by imprisonment for a term of 3 to 8 years.

Fortunately, Mary's condition began to stabilize. After three operations, she came to her senses, but she cannot speak. Her girlfriend reported that the girl is gradually recovering, and doctors evaluate her condition as stable.

We will remind, the tragedy happened in March 2025. On March 9, Maria ceased to communicate with her relatives. It is known that she was last seen at a party with two men who introduced themselves to "model scouts". The girl planned to fly to Thailand on March 11, but did not appear on the flight.

Only on March 19, it was found in a serious condition on the roadside in Dubai. Mary had numerous injuries and was unconscious. The Ukrainian Consulate in the Emirates helped to find it at a local hospital.

The girl's relatives and friends hope for her full recovery and call for a thorough international investigation. Ukrainian law enforcement officers, in turn, focused on the version of human trafficking - one of the worst forms of modern slavery.
