Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police detained a man who, for a monetary reward, set fire to the buildings of the territorial procurement centers (TCC) and the cars of the Armed Forces servicemen. The perpetrator was a 35-year-old unemployed resident of Sumy.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General and the Security Service of Ukraine, in November 2024, the suspect received a proposal via messenger about setting fire to military facilities. Carrying out the tasks of the customers, he set fire to two buildings of the TCC and three official cars belonging to the Ukrainian military. Although buildings suffered only minor damage, vehicles were completely destroyed.
The suspect recorded the consequences of his actions on video and sent reports to his customers, waiting for the promised monetary reward.
The law enforcement officers, having conducted operative and search measures, established the identity of the suspect and detained him. The court chose a preventive measure for the man in the form of detention without the right to bail. The detainee has been charged with two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- h 1 Art. 114-1 (obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations in the conditions of a special period),
- h 2 Art. 194 (intentional destruction or damage to property).
If found guilty, the man faces up to 10 years in prison.
