The draft law banning the UOC-MP became the subject of heated debates in the Verkhovna Rada, where some deputies actively expressed their support for its adoption, considering it a necessary step to protect the national security and spiritual independence of Ukraine. On the other hand, there are deputies who do not support the initiative due to legal, political or religious reasons.
According to Koshkina, about 70 people's deputies from "European Solidarity", "Golos" and majoritarians from "Servant of the People" declared that they will not participate in all the votes in the Verkhovna Rada, except for the extension of martial law.
As the journalist notes, in this way, the people's elected officials gave an ultimatum to the leadership of the "Servant of the People" party, if the draft law on the UOC-MP is not on the agenda.
Sonya Koshkina points out that the necessary 226 votes were collected before the second reading of the draft law in the Verkhovna Rada, but more are needed to insure. According to her, there are deputies in "Servant of the People" who hesitate to ban the UOC-MP.
In particular, this group includes the head of the faction Davyd Arakhamiya and about 30 elected members of the monomajority party. In addition, Koshkina points out that in "Servant of the People" there is another group of 70 deputies who "did not sign their support for the draft law on banning the UOC MP and do not intend to support it in the second reading."
"Among them, according to the updated list of signatories, are Zhan Beleniuk, Yevhen Brahar, Maksym Buzhanskyi, Danylo Hetmantsev, Pavlo Halimon, Georgy Mazurashu, Yurii Koryavchenkov, Serhiy Kalchenko, Oksana Dmitrieva, Yuliya Yatsik (who recently left the SN faction), Maksym Pavlyuk, Artem Kultenko, Nataliya Loktionova, Maksym Perebiynis, Margarita Shol, Pavlo Yakymenko, etc.," said Koshkina.
