The Verkhovna Rada registered a bill on changes in liability for evasion of military service during mobilization. Instead of deprivation of liberty for 3-5 years, as provided by the current legislation, it is proposed to establish a fine from 51,000 to 85,000 hryvnias, community service for 160-240 hours, correctional work for 1-2 years or restriction of liberty for 1-2 years.
It is noted that the bill also refers to Article 337 of the Criminal Code, which provides for liability for evasion of military registration or educational fees.
The author of the draft law is People's Deputy Anatoly Burmich, who argues for the need for changes by the fact that imprisonment in this case may be too severe a punishment, and the use of other types of punishments will save state resources and direct them to other needs.
However, due to the fact that the author is only one people's deputy who does not belong to the coalition, the probability of the adoption of this bill is considered low, especially in the conditions of the discussed harshness of mobilization measures.
