In Zaporizhzhya, for the first time in the region, there was a case of iatrogenic botulism after the introduction of botulotoxin during cosmetology. This was reported at the Zaporizhzhya Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The information is transmitted by “Public”.
Botulotoxin is actively used in cosmetology to relax the muscles, but has a strong neurotoxic effect that blocks the transmission of nerve impulses and can cause muscle paralysis.
This is the second case of botulism in the Zaporozhye region since the beginning of 2025. The first case was associated with the use of dried fish.
Botulism symptoms include:
-
visual impairment;
-
strong dryness in the mouth;
-
difficulty in speech;
-
muscle weakness and increased fatigue;
-
dizziness;
-
Short -term digestive disorders (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea).
Doctors call to follow the safety rules:
-
avoid food from jars with signs of spoilage;
-
not to use suspicious packaging products;
-
avoid consumption of dead fish and old home preservation;
-
Choose only proven cosmetic clinics.
Experts emphasize that at the first symptoms of botulism, it is necessary to seek immediate medical attention, as the disease can be a direct threat to life.
