On the coast of the legendary island of Khortytsia in Zaporozhye a historical artifact was found - an anchor dating from the nineteenth century. This was reported by the press service of the Khortytsia National Reserve.
The finders of the Reserve Restoration Department during the coastline's planned research were found. According to scientists, it is a massive anchor that could belong to one of the trading or river vessels, which opened the Dnieper in the last century.
The artifact has already been transferred to the Museum of Shipping, located in Khortytsia. It is here that the largest collection of anchors in Ukraine is stored, some of which were found during the submarine archaeological expeditions on the Dnieper.
The reserve emphasizes that such findings are of great historical value, because they help to better understand the life, technique and navigable traditions of the past centuries. The residents of Zaporozhye were also urged to report randomly discovered ancient objects to protect them from destruction and save for future generations.
Khortytsia, which is not only a symbol of the Ukrainian Cossacks, but also a unique archeological complex, continues to discover its historical secrets.
