Hungary again opposed Ukraine's integration into the European Union, blocking the opening of the first cluster of membership negotiations. A cluster called "Fundamentals" covering the right of rule of rule should be a starting point on the path of Ukraine to the EU. This was reported by the Polish edition of RMF24 with reference to a European diplomat.
It is noted that Poland, which is currently presiding in the EU Council, has prepared a letter demanding that the cluster open. The document stipulates that Ukraine must develop two road maps - one for reforms in the field of law, the other for public administration reforms.
Hungary became the only EU member country that did not support this document. Budapest insists that Kyiv should also submit a plan of action to protect national minorities.
"All countries have agreed with the conditions of opening a cluster, except for Hungary, which requires additional guarantees on the rights of national minorities," - said European sources.
This position of the Hungarian authorities can significantly complicate the European integration process of Ukraine, because in order to open negotiations in April two more procedural decisions are required. Each of them can also be blocked by Hungary.
Blocking the first cluster of negotiations can slow the entire process of Ukraine's accession to the EU. Currently, the Ukrainian side is counting on further negotiations with European partners to find a compromise and start official negotiations on union membership.
Recall that in the European Union began to discuss the possibility of returning to the purchase of gas from Russia. According to some European officials, the restoration of imports could not only reduce energy prices in Europe, but also become a lever of influencing the Kremlin, forcing it to sit at the negotiating table and end the war.
