Ukrainians in Germany are obliged to re-register their cars with local license plates after September 30

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported that all Ukrainian cars that have been in Germany for more than a year must be re-registered with German license plates after September 30, 2024.

This applies to Ukrainians who continue to use their transport on the territory of Germany after a long stay.

This can be done using a simplified procedure.

It is not necessary to remove the car from registration in Ukraine. In case of return, new numbers will be issued.

Since the beginning of the war, the Germans allowed Ukrainians to drive on domestic registration.

It should be noted that groups of Ukrainian refugees living in Germany have recently been mass writing that driving on Ukrainian license plates after September 30 will be prohibited under the threat of a fine.

However, as we can see, the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs does not confirm this. And he writes that after this date it will be necessary to apply to the German authorities to change the registration.

The website of the German Ministry of Transport also states that after September 30, cars must be registered with Ukrainian license plates. But it is not specified that it is forbidden to move on them after this date.
