Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky Sea Port has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Batumi International Container Terminals LLC (BICT), which operates the container and ferry terminals of the port of Batumi in Georgia. This was announced by the CEO of Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky Port Oksana Kiktenko.
The document envisages the creation of a new ferry route between Ukrainian and Georgian ports, as well as the construction of a road-rail ferry complex in the Belgorod-Dniester port. This will allow taking into account the needs of cargo flows on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTM), also known as the “Middle Corridor”.
According to Kiktenko, the purpose of the memorandum is to attract additional cargo volumes through the "Middle Corridor" and strengthen the position of the Bilhorod-Dniester port as a key hub on the European side of the route.
This is the second such document within the framework of the development of TMTM. Earlier, on June 3, the port signed a memorandum of cooperation with APM Terminals Poti, a division of Maersk, the owner of Georgia's largest seaport in Poti.
The development of the “Middle Corridor” allows Ukraine to expand its logistics capabilities and provides alternative routes for cargo supplies to Europe, which is especially important in today's conditions of global instability.
