Ukraine wants its path to NATO membership to be irreversibly cemented at the upcoming Alliance Summit in Washington, said the head of the Ukrainian Mission to NATO, Natalia Halibarenko, in an interview with Politico.
She said Ukraine understands that allies may not make a political decision to invite NATO members during a conflict, and therefore does not seek immediate membership at this time. She also stressed the need for additional decisions on air defense and recognition of Ukraine's significant reform achievements.
Halibarenko noted that Ukraine hopes for progressive formulations regarding membership that will surpass the approaches outlined at the NATO Summit in Vilnius.
