A German eye clinic operating in Ukraine has joined a unique international medical project dedicated to creating global artificial intelligence in the field of ophthalmology. The project unites 100 leading clinics from 65 countries around the world, and the Ukrainian clinic became the only participant from our country, taking 37th place in the list of partners.
This achievement was made possible thanks to the authority of the scientific director of the clinic, Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Oksana Vitovska, as well as the professionalism of the team of doctors. The clinic actively participates in the development and practical implementation of intelligent technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases, in particular cataracts.
The clinic uses the most modern treatment methods and the latest solutions, in particular, the selection of artificial lenses from the English company Rayner, created with the participation of artificial intelligence. Currently, these innovative lenses are available only at the British Ophthalmological Center and the German Eye Clinic in Ukraine. The introduction of new technologies places high demands not only on equipment, but also on medical staff. All doctors at the clinic undergo certification courses and constantly improve their qualifications. Doctors who do not meet the new standards are forced to leave the institution. The clinic has implemented the principle of exceeding patients' expectations. This involves the use of modern equipment, accurate diagnostics, a complete examination in accordance with the standards of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the EU, as well as a personalized approach to each patient.
Fundamental artificial intelligence models, which are now being actively implemented in medicine, are already used in ophthalmology practice. For their effective work, a large database of high-quality data is required. That is why more than 100 clinics around the world have joined forces to work together on this technology, and Ukraine has become a full participant in this process. The Global RETFound consortium sets new standards in ophthalmology - both in diagnostics and treatment. The Ukrainian clinic does not simply adopt international experience, but takes an active part in its formation. This also applies to the accuracy of predicting results, choosing artificial lenses and performing laser vision correction. It is important that the personal data of patients remain within the clinic. Only model weights are transferred to the global system - the result of data processing by artificial intelligence. This creates a safe environment in which the doctor can model the ideal treatment outcome with a high degree of accuracy.
Today, innovations that will become available in other countries only in a few years are already standard in Ukrainian clinics. In particular, this applies to the initial examination and consultation of an ophthalmologist before cataract surgery. Such services are provided free of charge.
