Ukraine has introduced new rules for military registration, according to which even people deemed completely unfit for service are no longer removed from the register. This happened after the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine issued a corresponding order in October 2024, which caused a wide response in society.
According to the information provided by the military lawyer Daria Holodnyak , the changes in the accounting rules concern not only individuals who previously had the right to be discharged due to health conditions, but also those who, for various reasons, are considered unfit for military service. Now even people who have serious medical contraindications or other legal grounds for exemption will remain on the register.
Previously, the category "unfit with exclusion from military registration" allowed conscripts with serious diagnoses to be completely excluded from the registry. Now this status has been canceled and is simply called "Unfit for service" - without exclusion from the registry.
This order also established that the total duration of medical examinations should not exceed 4 days. If there is a need for additional research to clarify the state of health, the term can be extended by no more than 14 days.
