Participants in the Czech Republic's initiative to purchase artillery shells for Ukraine outside Europe have signed an agreement under which Kyiv will receive one million rounds of ammunition.
This was reported by the Italian publication Corriere della Sera, citing its own sources.
Initially, it was assumed that 800 thousand shells would be purchased: 500 thousand for the largest caliber 155 mm and another 300 thousand for 122 mm, but Czech officials found another 200 thousand shells.
“It is not known which companies were specifically approached, although rumors point to South Korea, Turkey and possibly South Africa,” the newspaper writes.
In addition, according to Corriere della Sera, Ukraine may receive the first shipments of ammunition not in June, as previously publicly stated by the Czech government, but in April.
In total, 15 countries have joined the Czech initiative, the report claims, including Germany, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium, Poland and Canada. Not all of them have publicly announced how much they have contributed to the purchase of the shells.
