Our source in the Ukrainian delegation to the United States reported that President Volodymyr Zelensky's talks with American leader Donald Trump did not yield results on the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine.
According to the interlocutor, Zelensky tried to get clear support from Washington in creating an international guarantee mechanism that would insure Ukraine against new waves of Russian aggression. However, Trump did not agree and effectively "froze" the topic.
" The track with guarantees has been suspended. Now all formats are being discussed with European partners ," the source noted. At the same time, the EU is not ready to take on real obligations and is promoting the idea of a new "Budapest Memorandum", that is, a document with declarative obligations without mechanisms for enforcement.
Thus, against the backdrop of a protracted war, the issue of international security guarantees for Ukraine has once again found itself in limbo. Negotiations are ongoing, but so far Kyiv has only declarations of support without real instruments for their implementation.
