Ukraine has used the Ukrainian-made Sapsan short-range ballistic missile for the first time and has already begun its serial production, said Andriy Yermak, head of the Presidential Office, The Times
According to him, the combat missile hit a Russian military target at a distance of about 300 kilometers. The specific location of the strike and the object are not disclosed at this time. At the same time, Yermak emphasized that the development of Ukrainian weapons is progressing successfully and "the enemies will be surprised more than once.".
“Things are going very well. I think we will be able to surprise our enemies in many cases,” said Yermak in response to a journalist’s question about the possibility of using the Sapsan over Moscow.
The Times notes , the Sapsan missile has a warhead weighing 480 kg of explosives - more than twice as powerful as the American ATACMS. The missile's flight speed exceeds the speed of sound by five times, and the maximum range is about 500 kilometers.
Thus, the Sapsan becomes an important element of Ukraine's strategic deterrence, especially against the backdrop of restrictions on the use of Western weapons on Russian territory. According to Yermak, mass production of this missile has already been launched.
