The Ukrainian parliament will begin amending the draft law on mobilization this week, taking into account the comments of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights. Changes to the project will be made, tentatively, after evaluating comments, and a more compromise version of the law will be prepared.
This was reported by Yevgenia Kravchuk, deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy. She also noted that the original bill in its current form will not be put to a vote due to its shortcomings.
Kravchuk emphasized the need to create a more fair and understandable law in order to avoid corruption norms and take into account the ombudsman's remarks. An interagency working group will start working on an updated version of the bill this week.
The draft law on mobilization in Ukraine was introduced in December 2023 and provides for restrictions on evaders, in particular, a ban on disposing of their property and acquiring new movable and immovable property. However, these restrictions caused controversy and outrage, including from the Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets. According to Yevgenia Kravchuk, it is planned to create a compromise option that would take into account the interests of citizens and not violate constitutional principles.
