According to Serhii Golubtsov, the chief of aviation of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian occupiers often use guided aerial bombs due to the process of rearmament in Russia. He noted that Ukraine is also working on creating its own guided aerial bombs based on conventional free-fallers, including the choice of a wing, a GPS module and a control module.
The first tests of Ukrainian guided aerial bombs should begin in a few weeks. The armed forces of Ukraine use Western-made bombs, such as the GBU-39 and GBU-62, of various calibers and warhead types. Golubtsov emphasized that the effectiveness of these bombs is impressive, especially when they manage to pass through the air defense systems of the Russians.
He explained that the Ukrainian Air Force uses weapons received from partners, but a limited number of these weapons reach them. Despite this, there are already enough converted aircraft, which makes it possible to assess the effectiveness of weapons and place orders for further deliveries.
