Ukraine has discontinued the practice of assigning the status of “limitedly fit for military service”. According to the Law on Ensuring the Rights of Military Personnel to Social Protection, conscripts with this status will be required to undergo a re-commissioning, where they will be recognized as fit or unfit for service. Changes for this category of citizens will be announced by the relevant authorities.
Individuals with the status of “limitedly fit for military service” are required to undergo a re-medical examination to obtain a new category. This process began on May 18, after the new mobilization law came into effect, and will continue until February 4, 2025. It is also necessary to update their data at the Territorial Military Commissariats.
The Law on Military Medical Examination in the Armed Forces of Ukraine provides that after a medical examination, former limitedly fit persons may receive one of several statuses, depending on the established diagnosis, including unfitness for military service, temporary unfitness, or fitness for service in certain areas.
Changes to the VLK system came into effect on May 4, when the Ministry of Defense amended Order No. 402 on the work of military medical commissions. These changes almost completely abolished the individual fitness assessment.
In parallel, on March 26, the Verkhovna Rada registered two resolutions repealing Law No. 10313, which provided for a mandatory repeated medical examination for men recognized as limitedly fit for military service.
