Ukraine ranked 20th in the annual ranking of the most powerful armies in the world, compiled by Global Firepower. The leaders of the list remained the United States, Russia, and China.
When compiling the rating, analysts took into account not only the size of the army and the amount of equipment, but also a wide range of indicators: the economic capabilities of the state, demography, logistics, and the volume of defense spending.
Among the key advantages of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the scale and real combat capability of the army, the number of personnel and reserves, the available military equipment, as well as the active use of unmanned systems were noted. Experts called the developed railway infrastructure, coal mining, and significant financing of the defense sector as additional advantages.
At the same time, the rating also pointed to problems: the weakness of the naval forces and civilian fleet, a shortage of aviation, and high dependence on external fuel supplies.
Despite the fact that the size of the Ukrainian army exceeds the armies of some other countries, Ukraine was surpassed by, in particular, Egypt, Brazil, Indonesia, Iran, as well as Germany and Spain.
