Electricity restrictions introduced in Ukraine

Ukraine will introduce power supply capacity restrictions starting February 11. They will apply only to industrial enterprises and businesses, and no outages are currently planned for residential consumers.

Damage to energy infrastructure due to Russian missile and drone attacks was the main reason for the restrictions. According to a statement by Ukrenergo, energy workers are working to quickly restore damaged equipment. However, restrictions on energy consumption for business and industry will last from 7:00 to 11:00 and from 15:00 to 21:00.

Such measures will help reduce the load on the energy system and maintain stability in the supply of electricity to household consumers.

No power outages are expected for residential consumers yet. However, energy experts are urging Ukrainians to consume electricity economically, as weather conditions (frosts down to 10 degrees) may create additional strain on the power system.

Volodymyr Omelchenko, Director of Energy Programs at the Razumkov Center, explained that in severe frosts and additional load from attacks on gas fields, in the event of a capacity shortage, planned power outages for household consumers may be introduced. However, with sufficient energy imports, Ukraine will be able to avoid such measures.

In order to avoid outages for household consumers, it is important to ensure stable imports of electricity and gas, as well as to responsibly manage electricity consumption in each household.

Thus, Ukraine needs to be prepared for any situations and combine consumption optimization with the active work of energy professionals.
