The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has invited Ukraine to join the Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions and become a full member of the relevant Working Group. This was announced by Serhiy Ionushas, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement Activities.
The invitation was made possible by the adoption of draft law No. 11443, prepared by the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement and supported by the parliament. Law 4111-IX, which amended the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes, entered into force on December 26.
According to Ionushas, this is the result of coordinated work involving the Prime Minister, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Economy, and the Office of the President.
OECD partners noted Ukraine's significant progress in creating an effective anti-corruption infrastructure and implementing transparent mechanisms in public administration. Ukraine, in turn, is ready to continue improving its legislation in line with international integrity standards and the requirements of the OECD Convention.
The invitation to the Convention opens up new opportunities for Ukraine to cooperate in the fight against corruption and increases international trust in Ukrainian business and state institutions.
