Ukraine asks the US to train more pilots, but faces limited access to the training program.
The Ukrainian government has officially requested the United States to train additional pilots at Morris Air National Guard Base in Tucson, Arizona. According to Politico, Kyiv indicates that there are 30 pilots ready to begin training in the United States immediately.
However, President Joe Biden's administration has announced a limited number of training spots for the Arizona-based program, saying only 12 trainee pilots can be accepted at a time.
It is also noted that two other training institutions, located in Denmark and Romania, are also facing a similar problem of limited available training places.
Congressmen Jim Himes and Mike Turner, who chair the House Intelligence Committee, have taken steps to support additional training. They, along with other lawmakers, wrote a letter to the Pentagon asking it to address the issue.
The Ukrainian military received a response from Washington, which stated that in addition to the limited places in the training program, there are agreements with other countries regarding training on F-16 aircraft, which the US cannot violate.
