Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine is conducting “active negotiations” to receive two Patriot air defense batteries and one SAMP/T.
At the same time, the Financial Times writes that European capitals have rejected Kyiv's demands to send their air defense systems to Ukraine.
Kyiv is asking to transfer Patriot systems from Poland, Romania and Spain, two people familiar with the negotiations told the Financial Times.
“They only need seven. But it’s difficult,” said one of them.
European countries have said they have no plans to send air defense systems to Ukraine, arguing that they need to maintain their defense capabilities. Germany has provided Ukraine with two Patriot systems, but this week made it clear that it will not provide any more.
“We will not be able to offer more systems at this time,” the Bundeswehr said on Monday.
Polish President Duda also ruled out the possibility of supplying Patriot systems, specifying that there is a possibility that he could transfer more of his Soviet-made missiles to Kyiv, without specifying which ones and in what quantity.
"In Poland, we are just starting to build the Patriot missile defense system, this system is not yet ready in Poland, so we have nothing to sacrifice, even if we wanted to," Duda said.
