The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has developed a new missile program, which has already been called “sufficiently powerful.” The head of the department, Rustem Umerov, announced on a telethon that international partners have already expressed verbal consent to its funding, and written confirmations are expected in the near future.
“We have already shared this program with our partners and are now waiting to see how many of these capabilities – missiles, drones, or drone missiles – they will be ready to support,” Umerov said. He stressed that the goal is to increase the scale of missile production to a level close to the drone program.
Expansion of Ukrainian missile production
The missile program, which President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in late August 2024, is to become an important component of Ukraine's defense strategy. After the Stavka meeting, the president announced that additional funds would be allocated for the implementation of this initiative.
At the beginning of the full-scale war, the Ukrainian Defense Forces actively used missile systems of their own production. In particular, the use of the R-360 “Neptun” anti-ship missile, which demonstrated high efficiency in real combat conditions, was a significant success.
“Palyanytsya” and new perspectives
On August 25, 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the successful combat use of a new weapon — a rocket-propelled drone called “Palyanytsia.” This latest development is the result of 18 months of work by Ukrainian engineers and has already proven its effectiveness on the battlefield.
In addition, on August 27, during a press conference, the president announced that Ukraine had successfully tested its own ballistic missile for the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion. According to Defense Express, this is the Sapsan or Grim-2 operational-tactical missile system, which could become an important element of the country's defense strategy.
Ukraine is gradually expanding its capabilities in the field of missile weapons. Partner support for this program will help not only increase the production of missiles and drones, but also increase the country's defense capabilities in the international arena. Thanks to new developments, the Ukrainian military will be able to more effectively track and neutralize threats, even in the difficult conditions of modern warfare.
