Poland has always been one of Ukraine's allies in the fight against Russian aggression, providing support with military aid, humanitarian support, and diplomatic forces in the international arena.
However, recently, there has been a tension in relations between the two countries that could lead to a significant cooling. Polish-Ukrainian relations have been under threat for several key reasons, including disagreements over military aid and historical events, especially the issue of the Volyn tragedy.
For example, Polish Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski believes that if Warsaw shoots down Russian missiles and drones over Ukraine, it will mean war with Russia. In his opinion, Volodymyr Zelensky wants to drag Poland into this war.
In addition, the Polish official was asked whether the Ukrainian authorities were acting honestly towards Poland, to which he replied: “No.” He criticized Zelensky for his statements, which were “unworthy of a politician who owes a lot to Poland.”.
Along with this, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski accused his colleague of failing to keep his promise regarding the exhumation of the victims of the Volyn massacre by the end of December 2024.
