Ukraine plans to continue its balanced approach to the issue of returning conscripted citizens from abroad for their mobilization and involvement in the Armed Forces, with increased diplomatic pressure on European partners. This was stated by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Volodymyr Ogryzko.
"European countries understand the need to protect themselves, first of all, independently. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, has already expressed this opinion during a speech in the German parliament. "Ukraine will insist that Ukrainian citizens capable of defending the country return home and participate in the defense forces, occupying appropriate positions," said Ogryzko.
He also emphasized that the mobilization of conscripts does not mean automatically sending them to the front, as various specialists are needed to support the military.
"Many Ukrainian specialists are currently abroad. They can return and take up important positions in the army, which are necessary to provide for those who directly conduct combat operations. Also, not all of our military are on the front lines; there are many specialized tasks that require experienced professionals," the diplomat explained.
Ogryzko expressed his conviction that Ukraine should find a balance in the issue of returning conscripts together with Western partners.
It was previously reported that the European Commission extended temporary protection for Ukrainians fleeing Russian aggression until 2026. In this connection, speculations about the duration of the conflict began to appear.
In addition, the government of Ukraine has updated the procedure for military registration for those who are abroad for a long period of time, which opens up the possibility of remote entry into the Armed Forces by applying to consular institutions.
