Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that the country needs not just a ceasefire, but a just and stable peace that cannot be destroyed in a few years, as Russia has already done. According to him, effective peace guarantees are key to achieving such a peace, and it is Russia, which brought war to Ukrainian soil, that is the biggest factor hindering the peace process.
Zelensky noted that Ukrainians want peace most of all, but for this it is necessary to provide real guarantees, since a ceasefire without guarantees can only be temporary. The President gave an example of how Russia has repeatedly violated the terms of the ceasefire and resumed hostilities. In order for the losses among Ukrainians not to continue, peace must be reliable and lasting, not conditional.
The President also noted that war for Ukraine is not just about signing documents, but about real pain and loss. The military has lost more than 43,000 of its own, thousands have been deported or taken prisoner, and the return of the latter is an extremely difficult process.
Zelensky stressed that achieving lasting peace requires the support of world leaders, and appealed to the United States and the international community for help in stopping Russia's aggression. He noted that Putin is "sick of war" and that he can only be stopped by force - the force of the unity of the world and leaders who can become the guarantors of peace.
"We are talking about peace through strength, through real steps and guarantees for the people and the state that has suffered from aggression," Zelenskyy concluded.
