According to The Wall Street Journal, Ukraine has successfully built an army that can maintain its defenses amid high tensions in the east of the country. However, Ukraine needs significantly more military resources and support to mount a successful counteroffensive against Russian forces.
This conclusion is drawn by the American publication based on conversations with representatives of Western and Ukrainian intelligence. Ukraine was able to compensate for losses and increase reserves - thanks to this, the Russians were stopped in the Kharkiv region, and in the Donetsk region they are gradually advancing, but at a "terrible price.".
At the same time, Moscow's plans for a new large-scale offensive in the summer remain uncertain.
Kyiv has fairly good intelligence on the battlefield and can spot Russian forces massing for a potential attack. But deducing Russian strategic intentions from this can be quite difficult, the Ukrainian intelligence official explained, adding that Russia has carried out attacks throughout the war that are not covered by standard military doctrine.
