At a discussion at the Aspen Institute, NATO's Supreme Commander in Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, expressed his thoughts on the current state of the war in Ukraine, as well as the lessons that can be learned from this difficult situation.
The future course of the war is difficult to predict, but so far the armed forces are demonstrating "a wonderful strategy," said General Christopher Cavoli.
"One of the challenges that we see, and one of the biggest lessons that I think we can learn from the war in Ukraine, is that in modern wars, you either win quickly or you have a long, unexpected turns. And this is where we are now, - the Voice of America quotes the words of the general.
He believes that the further course of the war will depend on the ability to accumulate "quality power faster and use it while there is a window of opportunity."
Kavoli says that Ukraine has been engaged in the generation of force in recent months, standing on the defensive, and this is "an excellent strategy, the only question is to continue its implementation." Also, the "power generation" depends on the help of the West, which is needed more than was thought at the beginning of the war.
Cavoli also made it clear that after the end of the war in Ukraine, Russia will continue to strengthen, and the government there will not change.
"At the end of the conflict in Ukraine, no matter how it ends, we will have a very big problem with Russia. We will get a situation where Russia is rebuilding its forces, stationing itself on the borders of NATO, and it will be led mostly by the same people as now, and which is convinced that we are an enemy, and even very angry," says the general.
