The Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Pavlyuk, has announced plans to create 10 new brigades aimed at preparing for a possible Russian offensive. According to him, this is one of the most urgent tasks facing the army.
Pavlyuk emphasized that Ukraine needs equipment, not just people. There is a tangible need for artillery and armored vehicles, which the general hopes the West will provide.
According to the Veteran Hub portal, a brigade can include from 1,000 to 8,000 people and has various structural units, such as headquarters, services, combat battalions and divisions, support units, etc.
According to Pavlyuk, some of these new forces will be deployed to defend Kyiv, as the capital remains a major concern. Pavlyuk noted that the Russian army can no longer carry out large-scale raids on multiple fronts and uses missiles much more quickly than before. Ukraine's armed forces have also grown significantly over the past two and a half years.
As for the threats to the capital, they are different from those at the beginning of the war. Russia is planning a new large-scale offensive to seize more territory, including regions that were already partially occupied earlier.
It is worth noting that officials in Kyiv are concerned about a possible attack on Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city.
As of May, the Russian Federation has deployed 52 Iskander missile system launchers along the border with Ukraine.
