Ukrainian MPs plan to create a Military Bureau of Investigation to investigate war crimes, said Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the European Union.
Nalyvaichenko reported that the parliament voted to create military justice in Ukraine to ensure an independent investigation and bring to justice anyone who violates the laws or discredits the Armed Forces.
“The Military Bureau of Investigation will conduct investigations, prosecute individuals, and refer cases to court,” Nalyvaichenko said. He also emphasized that this body will not replace the military prosecutor’s office, but will have expanded powers in the field of military matters.
Nalyvaichenko also discussed the transfer of Ukrainian counterintelligence to the Ministry of Defense in order to strengthen internal security and prevent the intrusion of foreign agents.
These steps should help improve the efficiency and independence of military structures in Ukraine.
