At the moment, Ukraine and Moldova are conducting a "certain dialogue" regarding the possibility of returning Ukrainian men of conscription age who went abroad illegally. This was stated by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Moldova, Marko Shevchenko, during a broadcast on Moldovan TV, Newsmaker reports.
According to him, first of all, Kyiv wants to resolve the issue with those evaders whom Moldova refused asylum, but they did not return to Ukraine.
"There are tentatively 100 people who, according to the Moldovan Border Police, illegally crossed the state border. These 100 people applied for asylum, which brings them under the protection of the international convention on asylum. But the government of Moldova grants asylum to only 90 people out of these 100. In this regard, I have a question - where are the remaining 10, whom Moldova did not consider it possible to grant asylum? Were they detained? No. Did they come home? No. They either simply stay on the territory of Moldova or go further. This situation suggests that there are problems that need to be solved. They do not deserve protection, but at the same time they do not want to return to Ukraine, and no one is forcing them to return," said Shevchenko.
