For the first time, Ukraine got through the winter entirely on its own gas

This was announced by the head of Naftogaz Oleksiy Chernyshov.

The Minister of Energy previously stated that Ukraine is close to self-sufficiency in gas in 2024.

This winter, Ukraine used gas only from its own production.

"The first day of spring. This means that you and I spent the winter entirely on Ukrainian gas! A historical event. 10 years ago, no one would have believed this. 2 years ago, when a full-scale war began, it was also hard to believe. But we did it and plan to support the trend of Ukraine's energy independence in the future. I am proud and thank the Ukrainian gas workers who made this possible," he wrote.

In fact, this "historical event" is explained simply.

After February 24, 2022, Ukraine lost large territories where hundreds of thousands and millions of people lived, as well as energy-intensive industries. Also, energy-intensive production has sharply decreased in the territory under control. That is, there was a sharp drop in gas consumption.

But at the same time, Ukraine retained control over almost all gas fields (and the largest of them are located in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions).

This made it possible to completely cover the needs with own gas.
