Ukrainian authorities have provided Telegram with a list of channels they consider “potentially problematic,” according to the platform’s representative, Remy Wong.
According to Wong, Ukraine provided a list of channels as part of its cooperation with the platform to address issues related to content that may violate the country's laws or cause other problems.
“We are currently investigating it and will take action against any content that violates Telegram’s terms of service,” he said. Wong did not say which channels were included in this list, but assured that their messenger is safe for all users.
“Telegram was specifically designed to protect users from Russian surveillance. Our applications are open source, and the encryption protocol is fully documented, so any researcher can independently verify its integrity and implementation,” he added.
Telegram representatives do not disclose details about the specific channels that were included in the list, but note that the platform will study this list and take appropriate measures.
In late February, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech held a roundtable discussion to discuss the potential threat to Ukraine's national security posed by the messenger. Its participants concluded that Telegram should be banned in Ukraine.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, is convinced that it is impossible to block the messenger in Ukraine.
Later, the Committee on Freedom of Speech stated that the Telegram administration refuses to block channels that spread Russian propaganda.
