Speaking on Rosemary Barton Live, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that Ukraine expects support from NATO in the event of a defeat in the conflict with Russia, which could lead to World War III. He called on G7 and European Union member states to join forces to protect the Ukrainian people and democratic values.
“We protect European values, European borders, and we protect the borders of the civilized world,” Shmyhal emphasized, emphasizing the importance of supporting Ukraine in protecting the “global future.”.
The prime minister's comments came a day after Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said that a Russian victory in Ukraine "would mark the beginning of an era of the decline of democracy and the triumph of authoritarian regimes.".
Shmyhal also expressed gratitude for Canada's support and called Freeland "Ukraine's greatest friend," noting that the country has received more than $13 billion in support from Canada over the past two years.
Ukraine is counting on its application for NATO membership being accepted at the next summit in Washington in July, Shmyhal said. He added that for now Ukraine is asking its partners for military equipment, but when the time comes, the country would be grateful for military support.
The leader of the Democratic Party in the US House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, also did not rule out the possibility of sending US troops to Ukraine in the event of a complete defeat of Kyiv in the war with Russia.
