Ukraine will most likely not accept the so-called Witkoff plan, and key decisions in the field of national security and diplomacy will be postponed until at least the spring of 2026. This was stated by political scientist Vadym Denysenko, commenting on the latest international negotiations and the domestic political situation.
According to the expert, the positions of Ukraine and Russia on a peaceful settlement remain unchanged, and therefore there is no chance of a breakthrough in the near future.
Denysenko noted that a ceasefire by the New Year is possible only if Ukraine agrees to surrender Donbas, which is Russia's key demand for starting negotiations. He called such a scenario impossible.
The political scientist is convinced that the return of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after a series of meetings with world leaders will not change the balance of power within the country. He predicts that the NABU and SAPO will continue to expand the circle of suspects in corruption cases.
At the same time, some of the defendants, despite the fact that large bails are quickly set for them, will most likely make plea deals with the investigation.
Denysenko emphasized:
«The creation and collapse of coalitions in Ukraine has never been an ideological process. It has always depended on financial preferences and guarantees of immunity for the beneficiaries of the factions.».
It is the issue of immunity, in his opinion, that will determine the future of parliamentary unions.
The expert emphasized that the current situation surrounding the Witkoff plan is reminiscent of the negotiations in Anchorage, when the US was unable to significantly influence Russia's position.
" Only Chinese pressure can change the situation radically ," Denysenko emphasized.
At the same time, he noted that Ukraine has partially lost its key moral advantage:
«We have lost the halo of a martyr defending democracy».
According to him, this reduces the country's diplomatic resources in negotiations with world leaders.
