Ukraine continues to take steps towards energy independence by increasing its own gas production. Naftogaz announced the launch of a new well, the fifteenth this year at one of its fields. Its daily capacity is 170 thousand cubic meters, which is a significant contribution to the country's total production.
A well with a depth of 4,202 meters was drilled in the central part of the field. According to Oleksiy Chernyshov, Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, another one is planned to be drilled by the end of 2024, and four additional wells in 2025.
“For the second year in a row, we have managed to increase production thanks to the professional work of Ukrgazvydobuvannya specialists. Thank you to everyone for this result,” Chernyshov noted.
The success of this project was made possible by 3D seismic surveys, which allowed us to identify promising horizons and clarify their capacity. As Serhiy Lahno, acting head of Ukrgazvydobuvannya, explained, the right choice of drilling site was a key factor in efficiency.
Since the beginning of 2024, Naftogaz has produced 9.8 billion cubic meters of commercial gas. This is more than 7% more than in the same period in 2023, and exceeds the operational plan by 2%. However, these results are still inferior to the pre-war indicators of 2021, when the volume of production reached 13.7 billion cubic meters.
