Ukraine will receive significant financial assistance from the European Union in 2024

Ukraine continues to receive support from international partners in an important economic and political context. According to the message of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, the government of the country expects to receive significant financial assistance from the European Union in 2024. This will allow Ukraine to maintain stability and support the economy in the face of challenges and difficulties.

The European Union's financial assistance to Ukraine in 2024 is expected to amount to 16 billion euros. This is the Ukraine Facility program, which is designed for four years. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on March 1.

According to him, the budget of the program itself is 50 billion euros.

"This is support for investments, support for our economy and our movement towards membership in the European Union. This year we expect to receive 16 billion euros in budget assistance from the European Union," the Prime Minister said.

He also noted that on March 1, the government will approve the “Reform and Recovery Support Program” with the European Commission. The agreement provides that the total budget of the program will increase to 374 million euros.

"These funds are intended to restore destroyed infrastructure facilities, support small farms and other agricultural producers, and modernize border crossings adjacent to the EU border," Shmyhal said in a statement.

The Prime Minister also spoke about other joint projects with international partners.

“Today (March 1, — ed.), we will approve and submit for ratification to the Verkhovna Rada an agreement with Slovenia on supporting the humanitarian demining program in Ukraine. Slovenia will provide a grant in the amount of more than 50 million hryvnias (1.5 million euros) to help us go through the process of such demining faster,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.

On February 1, it became known that EU leaders at a special summit in Brussels approved the allocation of 50 billion euros to Ukraine under the Ukraine Facility program. The program is designed for 2024-2027.

On February 5, the Council of the EU and the European Parliament tentatively agreed to create a new instrument to support the recovery, reconstruction and modernization of Ukraine — the Ukraine Facility. The document is to be approved by the European Parliament at its plenary session, scheduled for February 26-29, 2024.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal previously claimed that the Ukrainian government would direct a significant portion of the funds received from the European Union to the budget to finance the budget deficit.
