According to the Business Insider portal, the American Abrams tanks proved to be insufficiently effective in the conditions of the conflict in Ukraine. Russian forces, using a variety of strategies and weapons, were able to effectively counter these "high-tech" armored vehicles, which resulted in significant losses among the equipment.
In an interview with the publication, a tank operator of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the call sign "Zakon" admitted that Russian drones remain a "huge threat" to the "Abrams". Armored vehicles are not protected from blows even by electronic warfare devices installed on them.
However, according to the Ukrainian, UAVs are not the only danger that American armored vehicles face. "Abrams" are an "easy target" for weapons that are often used in combat, in particular for anti-tank missiles and rocket launchers.
"Law" noted that the "Abrams" are able to "withstand a hit."
At the same time, he emphasized that tanks are in dire need of enhanced protection, in particular dynamic systems such as the ARAT-1 or the Soviet analogue "Kontakt-1".
Another problem is the number of cars. The U.S. delivered only 31 Abrams to the U.S. Army, of which at least ten have already been destroyed, so they cannot be used as breakthrough tanks, but play an auxiliary role to support and strengthen defensive positions, Business Insider points out.
