The SVARGA brand, in collaboration with the Ivan Franko Museum in Lviv, has introduced a new embroidered shirt, which is a replica of one of the favorite pieces that belonged to the great writer. This men's embroidered shirt, called “Suzirʼya”, was created based on one of the favorite pieces worn by Ivan Franko – the popularizer of Ukrainian clothing, poet and prose writer.
The shirt design impresses with wide sleeves and decorative embroidery of geometric shapes on the chest. The pattern looks like machine embroidery, perfectly imitating hand embroidery techniques.
This particular shirt, from which the ornament was recreated, belonged to the Frank family and is the only surviving item of clothing of the prominent Ukrainian. Made using the Poltava “white on white” technique, it has a special historical status.
According to the museum's website, this shirt was given to Ivan Franko by Kharkiv poetess Khrystya Alchevska in 1913, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his literary and public activities. Later, in 1925, the writer's daughter, Anna Franko-Klyuchko, found this shirt in the attic of the family home. In 1948, she took it to Canada, where she lived with her family, as a memento of her father. During her first visit to Soviet Ukraine in July 1967, Anna presented this shirt to the museum.
The SVARGA brand has already presented seven modern models in its “Frankovy Vyshyvanka” collection, which reproduce the ancient patterns of Franko’s embroidered shirts. Ivan Franko was a pioneer in introducing embroidery into everyday wardrobe, and this brand continues his traditions, considering embroidery not only a festive element, but also a part of quality everyday life.
